Remember When

Welcome to our list of random ramblings. If you find any connected thoughts on this page, it is strictly an accident. Best of all, you can contribute your own Remember When simply by adding them in the form below.

bullet

You spent Saturdays washing and waxing and cleaning the inside of your car, so it looked great when you went to the burger joint that night.

bullet

When we had kerosene lamps for light and the only bathroom was the 'outhouse', and the refrigerator was the little cupboard in the hole in the basement with ice in it, and you could buy Christmas presents for mom and dad with just $1.00! (Submitted by Eva Bayles)

bullet

Watching free movies outdoor in the Summer at the town square (Submitted by Bob Geezer)

bullet

People didn't apologize for having an opinion that was different from everyone else.

bullet

Cars had fins, big bumpers and awesome grills.

bullet

Cars have 8 cylinders and hauled a**!

bullet

Telephones had dials and not push buttons.

bullet

We told time by looking at the big and little hands, not digital displays.

bullet

We listened to radio.

bullet

There weren’t any televisions to watch, computers to play on, X-boxes, etc. The internet didn’t exist.

bullet

We didn’t need helmets to ride our bikes.

bullet

Roller skates were made of metal and you needed  a key to tighten them, along with a pair of good shoes. We didn’t have any shin or knee guards.

bullet

Kids were allowed to really play and wow, horrors of all horrors, actually scrape a knee, fall down, bang an arm or leg and who knows what else. We didn’t care, we were playing and having fun.

bullet

The word gang meant friends, not criminals.

bullet

Rap was something we did on a front door or another object.

bullet

Gay meant to be happy.

bullet

Records came in the form of 78s, 45s and LPs. There were needles on our stereos.

bullet

You had to get up to change the channel on the television set.

bullet

Remember antennas, indoor, outdoor, or better yet the tin foil we put on to get in a better picture, or when your sister or brother stood there and held them so you could see the picture.

bullet

Families having dinners each night was the norm, not an aberration.

bullet

The family Summer trip before going back to school.

bullet

The BBQs that included all the grandmas, grandpas, aunts, uncles and cousins we had.

bullet

When gas prices were under 50 cents, or even under $1.

bullet

When you pulled into a gas station and an attendant filled up your car, and checked under the hood. Plus cleaned you windows if they needed it.

bullet

Holy crow, when gas stations actually did repairs on cars too!

bullet

For those of us who lived in the city, stick ball.

bullet

Watching Wally and the Beaver and then trying ourselves what they did that week.

bullet

Playing with our G.I. Joes and our armies.

bullet

Building our tree houses and snow caves.

bullet

Playing with Barbie, Ken and Patty Play Pal.

bullet

Hugging our Teddy's and Raggedy Ann's.

bullet

Watching Romper Room and Sherri Lewis and Lambchop, and let's not forgot Captain Kangaroo and Mr. Rogers!

bullet

Submarine races. (Nuff said)

bullet

Remember putting our money each week in our Christmas club accounts.

bullet

Remember when a 25 cents allowance was a lot of money.

bullet

Remember when you could actually buy something with a quarter.
