Adventure

These early radio episodes are true American treasures and are must listening to for anyone who grew up in that era. For those a bit younger, it is a window into how your parents and grandparents entertained themselves. Remember, this was the time before most folks had a TV. If you have any interest in nostalgia and entertainment history, you can not afford to pass up these true American Treasures.

Escape was radio's leading anthology series of high adventure. It aired on CBS from July 7, 1947 to September 25, 1954. Escape kept many listeners spellbound during its seven-year run. Some of the memorable adaptations include Algernon Blackwood's "Confession", Ray Bradbury's oft-reprinted "Mars Is Heaven," George R. Stewart's Earth Abides,  and many more. Vincent Price and Harry Bartell were heard in the chilling "Three Skeleton Key. So whenever you have had one of those days, and who doesn’t lately, and want to Escape, remember……..The series' opening combined Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain with the introduction, intoned by Paul Frees and William Conrad: “Tired of the everyday routine? Ever dream of a life of romantic adventure? Want to get away from it all? We offer you... Escape!” And put the CD in and for a little while at least ………Escape. Enjoy over 177 episodes and 87 plus hours to Escape in!

Box 13 was a syndicated radio series about the escapades of newspaperman-turned-mystery novelist Dan Holliday, who was played by film star Alan Ladd. Created by Ladd's company, Mayfair Productions, Box 13 premiered August 22, 1948, on Mutual's New York flagship, WOR, and aired in syndication on the East Coast from August 22, 1948, to August 14. 1949. On the West Coast, Box 13 was heard from March 15, 1948 to March 7, 1949. To seek out new ideas for his fiction, Holliday ran a classified ad in the Star-Times newspaper where he formerly worked. "Adventure wanted, will go anywhere, do anything -- Box 13." With over 23 hours and 50+ episodes you can imagine yourself joining Dan Holliday in his escapades and adventures.
